Feed Your Mind
When on vacation, we like to "feed our minds" with trips to art galleries and museums. We took a trip to Texas this month and spent two days in art museums in Houston and checked out several art galleries in Austin. We also took photos of flowers, textures, walls, clouds, etc. to use for collage material. In the canvases above, I used a macro shot of the rusted colors on a glider in our friend Marvin's yard as the entire background of the piece. On the larger one, I divided the canvas into a grid -- inspired by a 6-foot-high canvas in a gallery that had featured a grid and used paint to obscure parts of the imagery. I think I'll explore the grid architecture a bit more, as well as play with using paint and thicker layers in my work....
